Damn. It’s freaking cold.

It is officially winter here in Vancouver. I haven’t felt this kind if cold in a very long time. It has been up to -12 here in some nights and the mornings are just as chilly. It’s been even hard to drive because the steering wheel is so cold to touch! I don’t ever remember being this cold before, at least here in Vancouver. Apparently it’s getting like this everywhere though. My co-worker told me that even her friend who lives in California, out of all places actually has her entire car covered in ice! It is even rumoured that they will even get snow!! California .. Snow!! That’s crazy to me! That scares me a little. It scares me that the world is changing so much that even one of the warmest places in the world can possibly get snow. Thank goodness I bought gloves today because I don’t know how much numbness my hands can take these days.

Ladies!!! I am getting excited! I think I finally have my wedding reception venue!!! The venue I visited last Friday was great! The ballroom was very nice and the package they offered was awesome. I tried to calculate my costs and it could possibly cost me only under $10k! They already offer complimentary chair covers and sashes which saves me a good $600-$700 with a hired decorator!! The price per head is very decent considering there’s actually 3 entrees rather than 1 or 2, we get a complimentary night at the hotel, free next morning breakfast, and free parking for our guests!!! There’s so much more and I’m getting very excited! The nice lady coordinator said she is holding my place for the ballroom until we get the contract filled out and pay for the booking deposit. I plan on giving the deposit next week so that means I FINALLY have my venue!! It’s such a relief off my shoulders.

Next weekend, my fiancΓ© and I are planning on visiting the church so that we can get that taken care of too. If I get the church then for sure I can finally breathe!! My mom also has already given me her list of guests she wants to invite. My mother-in-law said she will be giving me a list next week too. If things go well with all of this, I can finally send my save-the-dates in January!! I have already been working on my wedding invite design and I can send those out in March! Aahhhh!!! I’m excited!!! I hope and pray that everything goes as planned. I finally want the stress over with in trying to plan the big stuff. I just want to be able to concentrate on the small things and know that I am actually getting married in August. That’s all I want and wish for right now. That we can finally get married and start out lives together as husband and wide and finally start own family.

How’s everyone’s holidays so far? Getting ahead with gifts and things? I’ve started some Christmas shopping but I still have a long way to go. All the items that I ordered for my fiance’s gifts are finally shipped out but I hope that they arrive on time. I’ve already brought my wrapping paper to work because that’s where I shipped the items to so that he won’t see what I got him. When it’s a little slow during work, I can wrap up some gifts in my office. That’s what my co-worker says she does on slow days during the holidays and she suggested I do the same. Great idea I say! It does suck that I still have to come into the office during Christmas week. Even though it’s only half days, it would have been nice to just have the days off. But my boss is expecting me to get some work done since I’m still working on year-end and have a project deadline due early January. To be honest though, I don’t know how much work I will get done just because it’s the holidays!!! The co-workers who have to be stuck with me at the office said that it will still be fun because their plan is to come in sweats and be comfy, order some takeout and watch movies with the projector because they know for a fact that it will be super slow. Every year during Christmas week, it is apparently very slow but the managers still have hope that there will be at least a few calls even though it hasn’t changed in the last 5 years. My coworker tried to even show a report of the slowness so that maybe we can get a couple days off but nope … They are refusing to believe it so we will just make the most out of it and have some fun in the office. Why not? It makes me happy that won’t be boring and they assure me that it won’t (since it’s my first holidays with the company). Looking forward to it. There’s a lot of things to look forward to over the next couple of weeks. Next Friday is my company’s Christmas party, next Saturday is my fiance’s company Christmas party and then it’s finally Christmas in a couple days after that!!! Yay!!!

It’s been cold here too! I live in Texas and even we got freezing rain. Overall, it’s been a colder winter than past years πŸ™

I’m glad you found a great venue! That sounds like a really nice package, especially with the freebies like free parking for guests and the chair sashes. That could have been really expensive if you covered it yourself! I hope everything goes well with the church and with the invites too!

I still need to do a lot of Christmas shopping too. It’s hard to figure out what to get certain people! That sucks that they won’t give you guys days off during Christmas week, but at least it sounds like it’ll be fun and laid back at work πŸ™‚

I’m very cold here in England too! Have cracked open the scarves, ear muffs and gloves πŸ˜€

I still see people on the street who don’t wear scarves though. I can’t withstand the cold without a scarf on, it’s the only piece of attire I will not go out the house without during winter.

That’s great news to hear you got a venue! Sounds like you got quite a deal there! My friend had to ask myself and another friend of hers to help with the chair covers and the sashes in the morning to help cut costs. I didn’t mind helping out and was happy to. Had so much fun tying bows and making the place look pretty for her big day πŸ˜€

I haven’t really done all my Christmas shopping. I haven’t had time! I’m thinking of just going to the Christmas sales and grabbing items for the family there. We’ve all made a mutual agreement that will happen this year hahaha. I’m not really here during the Christmas holidays but I’ve been told if I can get everything done by the 20th I can just start watching TV or whatever after hehehe.

HAHAH! NICE!! To be able to just watch tv and relax?! I want that!!
I LOVE scarves too! I always have one in my car just in case!!

  3. It’s getting really cold here too but I bet the weather we have here would be a no biggie for you cause the coldest hong kong gets is just about 6 degrees. we never go negative lol. I would probably be FROZEN if I were there!

Glad to hear everythings going well with your wedding planning! I’m excited for you! I’ve put our plans on hold for now cause I have issues with some of my hubby’s papers. We already had our muslim wedding so now it’s just the court wedding so that it would be a legal marriage here in hong kong. people aren’t being too nice though. A little discrimination involved perhaps because I’m filipino and he’s not. Urghh. Anyways keep in touch babe!

    • Shar says:

That sucks!! Sometimes discrimination is a factor. Then again discrimination is everywhere. Even in a time where things are modern and it seems people are more open-minded, it’s still around. Hopefully things go well with your court wedding!! Just imagine the bliss you will finally feel when it’s all taken care of!

I like your layout! It is unique! though this pink in the text and input areas is really bright and hard to see what I am typing. πŸ˜›

Congrats on getting your venue! I am excited for you!

My holidays are going by just fine. I’ll be working all of the time until Christmas where I will have Christmas and the day after off as that is my mom’s birthday. I’m excited!!!
Thanks! Looks like you are getting things on your to do list done as well! Not as fast but weddings are never done that fast! hahaha.

Yeah, I completely understand. That’s why I am not doing anything with school until August…besides a few tests ans applying for school and scholarships. Making money is more important to me now as well.

  7. Kelly says:

OMG that is so exciting! Is this the same venue you had to look at during the week because they weren’t open on the weekend? If you make your own decorations for your wedding you’ll have to post them here – creativity and themes are so fun to read. Congratulations on finding your venue πŸ™‚

    • Shar says:

Yeah it is! i had to take a day off but it was well worth it! I will definitely be posting up pictures!! I might post up pictures here and there before the wedding to show what kind of decor I’m doing and hopefully after the wedding, the photographer took some nice shots of the whole look as well!

  8. Amy says:

It’s usually cold where I live, but surprisingly it hasn’t got bad enough to snow yet. I’ve got my winter coat ready so I can be nice and snug!

Congratulations on getting the venue – it must be e stressful having to organise so much, but at the same time very exciting, I’m sure! Good luck getting everything sorted! I’m excited to hear about it!

Hope you had a lovely Christmas and managed to get the gifts wrapped!
